The focus of this guide is on weapons that are available in the New World. We'll discuss what we call Weapons with their advantages, disadvantages and how each of their skill trees does!
The significance of weapons in New World
New World operates off a classless system, so your "class" or"build" is determined by the weapons you decide to wield. You can have two weapons at any given time with the various options that are available, there's an abundance of skill and weapon combinations.
The goal of this guide is to briefly explain each weapon and its skills, talk a bit about it's strengths and weaknesses, and some typical combinations. At the end of this guide, you should be aware of the things each weapon is capable of or could do in terms of combat and playstyle.
Melee Weapons
The Melee weapons in New World are a pretty diverse set of weapons. You can find everything from speedy, one-handed weapons to slow two-handed weapons. Each is capable of being used for DPS but only a handful have the capability of directly tanking, without relying on evading.
One-handed melees are generally the stronger DPS alternatives, but Two-handers can be quite effective, however they are slower to hit. Two-handed melees also provide plenty of crowd control and potential for disruption, while the majority of one-handed melees do not have these.
Sword and Shield
The primary weapon that you'll have to use in New World, with balanced offense and defense. Concentrating on sword-related skills allows you to become a highly capable Melee DPS. Focusing specifically on that Shield aspect of the Tree can help you be among the best Tanks to play Party Play.
To begin early leveling, using most of the skills from the Swordmaster tree is the most effective. You can simply start with Whirling Blade with any upgrades which you like for the extra damage as well as AoE. After that, move over onto the Defender side to get Shield Bash, and Shield Rush.
The Sword and Shield scales its damage by combining Dexterity and Strength. So these are the stats that you should be focusing on most. Strength is the main stat of this weapon. It will grow its damage faster than Dexterity can. It's usually paired with the Hatchet for Tank Setups, but is flexible enough to be paired with almost any weapon. However, for magical weapons, it will require an item that can deal substantial damage.
Swordmaster Tree
The Swordmaster Tree is of course focused on all things Sword. It offers a variety of swordskills focused on damage in Whirling Blade and Stab Reverse Stab as well as Leaping Strike.
Whirling Blade is a high damage attack that is able to hit every single thing within a 2-meter area surrounding you. Reverse Stab is an extremely powerful single target attack with the highest damage-to-damage ratio of that Sword and Shield. Leaping Strike is an explosive jump, followed by a strong attack.
Whirling Blade remains one of the top AoE options that the Sword has, having the ability to cover a greater area and coverage than Light Attacks. Reverse Stab is a potent option with strong upgrades, even if you are focusing on shields skills in addition to. Leaping Strike is a popular choice, but it's not used often, as Shield Rush from the Defender Tree provides more.
The best of this skill treeis Leadership. It offers you and your friends with a ten percent chance of gaining damage in a party.
Defender Tree
The Defender Tree is highly focused on the shield part of both the Sword and Shield. It gives three shield-dependent skills in Shield Bash, Shield Rush as well as Defiant Stance.
Shield Bash is a fast strike with the shield which can cancel some attacks. Shield Rush is a short distance charge made with the shield, which knocks them back when hit. The resolute Stance is among the strongest defensive cooldowns on the table.
Compared to the skills in the Swordmaster Tree, all of the skills of defenders are extremely useful. When you use Carnelian Gems Shield Bash and Defiant Stance are both transformed into taunts. Shield Bash being mostly a single target Taunt and aggro tool, while Defiant Stance becomes an AoE Taunt. Defiant Stance remains the most effective defensive cooldown that is available due to the huge Fortify value it provides. Shield Rush remains a slightly superior gap to Leaping Strike, due to its added value due to its improvements.
The most powerful ability in this Tree the Defensive Formation reduces the damage dealt at allies within 2m of 30 percent. This Ultimate can be used only for PvE, and will be less useful for PvP.
You can find out a lot more from our detailed Sword and Shield Guide and Best Builds article. It's comprehensive and will assist you in mastering the style of combat faster.
Spear
The Spear is one of a couple melee weapons that have an option to range. Both sides of this weapon are excellent in their own ways. But, the spear is less suited to PvP since it's not able to deliver enough damage that it can do anything more than supplement the Impaler Tree with an initiation at a distance option.
This weapon is ideal for both PvE and PvP. It has powerful crowd control options and a range of kinds of statuses that could hinder opponents to take on.
For early Leveling you should stick more to the Impaler Tree, as the Zoner Tree isn't able to offer much at the beginning. If you've got more points, you can use Sweep as an amazing choice for a pickup. Javelin may have some unique uses like pulling a mob away from deep water in order to tackle it better.
Like similar to Sword and Shield, the Spear can also be scaled in strength and dexterity. However , Dexterity is by far the highest rating stat that is used to scale the Spear while Strength is secondary. Primarily scaling with Dexterity, as well as the degree of crowd control it can offer make it a good melee to combine with Bow or Musket. It's lower Strength scaling does make it a good choice to be used in conjunction with other melees.
Zoner Tree Zoner Tree focuses on the element of range and combines it with several options for creating space and crowd control for the opponent. It is equipped with three abilities that are called Cyclone, Javelin and Sweep.
Cyclone is an incredibly fast and radial attack that brings foes behind 3m and causes 50% slow. Javelin lets you throw your spear over an extended Cooldown, providing you the ability to range your attack and also staggers the enemy on the hit. Sweep is a quick melee-ranged knockdown, which can be used to create a powerful follow-up attack.
Of this tree Sweep is one of the most widely-used It is an excellent choice for PvP and PvE. Cyclone can be situational however, it also has one of the most powerful games' slows attached to it. Javelin is good for PvE in open world, or as an option to finish PvP from a distance however the cooldown can make it feel lacking.
The Ultimate for this tree is Reserved Strength. It is a 25% damage reduction in full stamina. This is a highly speculative passive in PvPbattles, but it's likely to be active until you've dodged. Even though it's frequently active but it's not as effective as Impaler tree's ultimate.
Impaler Tree
Impaler Tree Impaler Tree is where most of this weapon's strength is. Similar to Sweep off the Zoner Tree, the powers of the Impaler Tree are all universally excellent. These abilities are Perforate, Skewer, and Vault Kick.
Perforate can provide a quick blast of damage through its rapid hits and quick animation, as well as applying Rend. Skewer is an extremely powerful strike that can also cause a bleed, dealing damages over the course of. Vault Kick is an excellent gap closer that doubles as stun.
From this tree, all of the skills have the potential to be used. For PvE or PvP, it is common to pick Vault Kick and either Perforate or Skewer together with Sweep in the Zoner Tree. This will result in an adaptable skill set-up that is able to be used in all situations.
The ultimate tree for this, Exploited Weakness, is very simple to play in PvE. For PvP but, this may depend on a small amount of configuration from other weapons, despite having Knockdowns, Bleeds as well as Rend, Slow, and Stun from its skills.
Berserk is a powerful tool, offering a multitude of bonuses that can benefit PvE as well as PvP players significantly. Feral Rush is a short-range dash that comes with two subsequent attacks. Raging Torrent is a series of four attacks that are performed using twice the pace of a light attack chain to provide decent burst damage.
Berserk by itself is what makes it the best tree to use for the Hatchet, in addition to the Ultimate Passive which prevents death makes it invaluable for PvP, as well as equally effective for PvE.
The ultimate version of the Berserker Tree, Defy Death, negates an otherwise fatal hit leaving you with 50 Health. You're invulnerable to damage for 3 seconds afterward, and this effect has a 75 second cooldown.
