This guide is an in-depth look at all things Great Axe in Amazon's MMORPG!

This guide dives deep into Skills such as Passives,, as well as some build options to build The Great Axe in New World. This guide could be thought of as a more advanced variation of our New World Guide to Weapons for Beginners. At the end of this guide, you'll be able to comprehend The Great Axe and with practice be able master it.

The Great Axe is a DPS/Tank weapon that is designed for groups of enemies and then hitting the targets with its incredible powerful single-target attacks. Since it is a method of grouping enemies, it is equipped with a number of AoE weapons for damage. It's an effective weapon in PvP with its high damage and incredible catch rate.

The primary use that is made of Great Axe is in the Damage Category. While this Great Axe is a slow weapon and may not be the best DPS but it does possess broad-sweeping attacks that can be used to cut through multiple foes. This makes it great at combating a single or several targets in all sorts of engagements.

The Secondary use of the Great Axe is Disruption and Utility. It's got a wide range of options to capture enemies and prevent them from escaping away from you or a group. This gives an Great Axe strong utility to complement its more sluggish, powerful attacks. These same tools can also be used to fill the role of a tank by pulling and setting several targets.

Fantastic skills with axes, passives and Perks

The first thing we'll discuss is the passives and skills. We'll discuss the various uses of each and how effective they are. There's a lot to cover here, so we'll divide it into different trees to make it easier to organize.

In addition to the general information The players will also be provided with a Rating from C up to S tier for both PvP and PvE. C tier is exclusively for passives that are not that excellent, or are forced by another upgrade or are otherwise ineffective. Both Tiers A and B are mid and tiers that place them in between the weakest passives and those that are the best with a leaning towards one in either direction. The S Tier are the top passives. They're the ones that which you're most likely to choose in the event that you acquire any skill, or are looking to learn it, since it's beneficial in a variety of scenarios.

 The Reaper Tree

The Reaper tree is known for its ability to capture enemies and dealing high single-target damage. The active skills of Reaper Tree Reaper Tree consist of Reap as well as Charge and Execute.

 Reap

Reap extends your Great Axe 5 meters to draw enemies closer to you, causing 110% damage to your weapon. This ability can be used in conjunction with a carnelian Gem to trigger a 4 second taunt upon hitting.

This skill is highly favored in PvP and has a reasons that are well-founded. It is a way to quickly take an enemy away from their location, isolating the other, or grouping multiple enemies to make it easy to follow-up to any of AoE skills.

This skill comes with an 18-second cooldown, which makes it the fastest cooldown of the Great Axe's talents.

 Reap Rating: A – PvE. S - PvP.

Out of the two choices for grouping AI enemies up there is only one that could be used to taunt the enemy in order to allow you to take on an off-tank role efficiently. It also has a greater reach than the radius of Maelstrom. Couple this with the ability to heal off the damage it deals and a second attack, it's a lot more adaptable.

In PvP, this is a skill which is difficult to ignore in a lot of matchups and especially when it comes to combating ranged enemies. Together along with Charge and Gravity It contributes towards the Axe's potential to catch in a significant way.

 The Collector

The Collector expands the range of Reap up to 8 meters.

This helps to make Reap more reliable as the added range can help catch foes from a bit farther away. This extra distance actually helps combat enemies that might attempt to light roll away from you in PvP.

The Collector Rating S - PvE and PvP

If you're currently using Reap at all you have no reason not take advantage of this upgrade. It will make it more reliable and effective in the purpose it was designed for.

 Hunger

Hunger will heal you for 30% of the damage caused by Reap.

A 30% chance of success on a heal from an attack sounds impressive but it's not much for situations where 1v1 is a requirement either in PvE, or even PvP. If you're landing it on several enemies, it could affect the outcome.

Hunger Rating B - PvE PvP

Healing can be beneficial however, you won't be getting much healing without hitting multiple targets. Since most enemies in PvP will be stronger than the majority of AI mobs, it's not particularly effective as well, healing only for a small fraction percent of the health you have per target.

 Fatal Attraction

Fatal Attraction also adds the additional attack of spinning that inflicts 115% weapon damage after pulling a target.

Although this is a second attack that Hunger is able to heal after, it's not much as powerful as the first. However, it makes you a little less vulnerable since the normal recovery time gets extended to following this attack, not after the pull.

Affective Attraction: S PvE and PvP

The additional damage makes Hunger super useful in PvE battles and allows it to recover more health against groups of adversaries. In PvP there's a chance to be a little more cautious against melee weapons as blocking can prevent the pull but still trigger the second attack making your vulnerable. The wide range of the follow-up will prevent a lot of weapons from following without trading damage.

 Charge

Charge allows you to turn your Great Axe back, before charging forward 10 meters with a 120% Weapon Damage when you are close to an object or press the Attack Key. The attack is invincible, preventing the skill from being disrupted.

Charge is an extremely multi-faceted skill that can provide the ability to move a lot as well as dealing quite high damage that only gets stronger through upgrades.

With a cooldown that lasts 20 seconds Charge can be one of Great Axe's cooldowns that are shorter.

Charge Rating: S - PvE and PvP

Charge is one of those capabilities that are highly recommended to apply in virtually every setting. Its mobility boost is welcome at low levels, which allows to travel more quickly. It also has the potential to cause damage, which makes it an excellent skill to weave between different attacks

 Frenzied Momentum

Frenzied Momentum increases the damage dealt to Charge according to distance. Charge is able to deal 120 - 140% weapon damage depending on the distance.

 The PvP Build

This is probably the build you've been searching for the most. This is the usual Reap, Charge, and Gravity Well design that is common in PvP.

This build makes use of Light attacks for most of its damage, opting to rely on skills that have high catch power in order to give them an advantage in any PvP fight they get into.

We start the leveling process by choosing Greed for the consistent damage it can provide. It also gives us the option of Reap or Charge for the first skill, of which Charge tends to be more beneficial for mobility and faster leveling.

After we've acquired those two skills, head over to The Mauler Tree, grabbing Mauler's Enduring Strike and Resolve to get to Gravity Well. You can also get The Crowded Well Upgrade if you wish to, but it's not a huge priority for this, since the majority of PvP matches are 1v1 unless you're involved in a major battle or skirmish. It can help with leveling however, and is an option. You can get it at any time after acquiring Blood Lust if you don't need to hold off on getting Blood Lust another level.

After grabbing Gravity Well and a few other items, you'll need to return to The Reaper Tree to Upgrade Reap and Charge. These upgrades provide a lot of damage to these skills and they can cause significantly more damage than they would at the moment.

Next we grab Critical Condition and Keen Edge to give us a bit more consistency in critical hits and to make them harder to hit. After this, we have an access point to Blood Lust.

The remaining passives that are left after Blood Lust can be taken in any order. Critical Gains as well as Feed gives us additional sustain. Death's Embrace and Frustration give us additional damage.

If you are looking for a more focussed on war or a large skirmish build, switch Feed and Frustration for The Center of Attention as well as Crowded Protection for the Mauler Tree. Center of Attention will provide more reliable damage than Frustration. Crowded protection is a better consistent defense as you'll be getting healed frequently. If you'd like, you can switch Critical Gains to Frustration in case you need to do more damage and want to completely depend on healers to treat you.

 Skill Perks, Usage, and Rotations

Charge is usually utilized to be able to reach the target for blood Lust or to utilize Gravity Well. It is also used as a tool to pursue or damage you are able to track the person without using it. Even though it causes high damage doesn't mean it should be used to cause the purpose of causing damage.

Gravity Well is typically utilized to block a brief distance or prevent escape attempts. It is used in Large Skirmishes and Wars, it's often used to disrupt the backline of the enemy where all the soft DPS and healers are. Additionally, it can be used to defend yourself as a denial tool keeping enemies off the defense line or to keep them away from your backline.

Reap is typically used to interrupt opponents in back lines in wars and skirmishes. It can also be used to forcibly pull your opponents off the line. It's a great answer to speedy dash. The majority of dash abilities can be interrupted, and the skill has a high enough range so that if you're already on top of them and they speed off in a predictable way, you could stop them, or catch them and pull them right back to you.

We absolutely want Keen Vicious, Keen and Insatiable Gravity Well. Keen and Vicious help with crucial hit accuracy and damaging. The main reason why insatiable Gravity Well must be attached to the weapon is because it currently does not function correctly when it's attached to armor. If this issue is resolved and it's not been updated to reflect as the case, replace it with Enchanted.

In our Armor, Resilient and Freedom are all worth stacking. Most of the time, you'll be on the front line taking a beating, so Refreshing Ward can help gain cooldowns. It can also help you get out of an awkward situation or cause further havoc.

For our Amulet we'll need to have Slash Protection, Strike Protection and Health. Slash and Strike Protection cover a lot of the melee strikes we'll encounter during these big battles. Health allows us to absorb a little more of ranged or magic damage hitting us.

We can use them for the Earring, Regenerating and Nimble are excellent picks. Regenerating helps us recover health slowly. Nimble provides us with a bit of extra Stamina Regen that allows us to block more melee hits as needed. The last slot can be either refreshing, or refreshing Ward to recover cooldowns.

To make our Ring we'll certainly need Slash Damage, Keen Awareness and Leeching. Slash Damage, and Keen Awareness will help us to do the most damage possible for PvP. Leeching allows us to sustain well since we're often attacking a lot of players at once. Or, we can opt to Refreshing along with Refreshing Ward by using Slash Damage.

 Skill Rotation

This build doesn't have any rotations, since every skill is unique and isn't a part of an organized rotation. Go through the use section above to get a clear idea of how each skill should be employed. In skirmishes or war, follow your group leader's instructions regarding what you should do, as they'll be determining the most appropriate time to use Gravity Well. The other skills are a personal judgement call.

This is the conclusion of this thorough guide to the Great Axe in New World. We hope you have learned everything you should know about this weapon, its use abilities, skills, builds, combos, and the ability rotations.
