Early this year, Psyonix announced that Rocket League would be receiving a Rocket Pass as part of a larger expansion that would include other games. While the Rocket Pass and Fortnite's pass are both secondary progression systems, the Rocket Pass is a cosmetic item unlocking system that allows players to progress through tiers and unlock progressively rarer cosmetic items rather than earning them solely through drops and loot boxes, which cannot be opened unless players purchase keys or earn decryptors during special events.
In order to differentiate between free and premium modes, the Rocket Pass will be divided into two categories: free mode and premium mode, with the latter providing significantly more cosmetic items at each tier than the former. Last week, game director Scott Rudi announced that a premium pass for the game would be available for purchase for $10 at an E3 meeting.
No matter which Rocket Pass you choose, you'll be able to level cheap Rocket League credits up to approximately tier 70, unlocking new cosmetics and, on rare occasions, unlocking decryptors as you advance through the levels. Premium Rocket Pass owners, on the other hand, will be able to unlock an infinite number of 'pro tiers,' which will allow them to continue earning randomized Painted and Certified versions of the same cosmetics after they've reached the maximum level. This will serve as a nice carrot on a stick for those who are committed to the game, especially when you consider that you will not receive duplicates until you have completed the entire set of cards. In order to differentiate between free and premium modes, the Rocket Pass will be divided into two categories: free mode and premium mode, with the latter providing significantly more cosmetic items at each tier than the former. The current Rocket Pass, as well as all of its rewards, will be retired after a few months, and replaced by a new Rocket Pass, which will include an entirely new set of cosmetic items to level up and earn.
It is anticipated that the Summer Feature Update, which will be released in July or August of this year, will include all of this information. In addition, cross-platform play with the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One is supported, as well as a revised leveling system that is now infinite and does not require exponential amounts of experience to progress through the levels. Used in conjunction with the Rocket Pass, it means that players will receive a much more consistent stream of cosmetic bonuses than they would otherwise. As long as I keep my common paint job and wizard hat on, I won't be able to communicate with anyone else. Every now and then, it's nice to keep things as simple as possible.
