One of the most popular sports in North America is American Football. While the game is played all over the world, the professional leagues in North America (such as the NFL) easily attract the best players in the world, making their leagues the most competitive. The Super Bowl is the pinnacle of the sport and is seen by millions of people around the world each year.
What is the goal?
It's all about scoring more points than your opponents in the allotted time frame in American football Once the ball is in the 'end zone' for a touchdown, they must move the ball through various phases of play to accomplish this. Either a teammate can catch the ball and run with it, or the ball can be thrown to them.
In the NFL, each team is given four opportunities (downs) to advance the ball 10 yards. Whenever they reach the 10-yard mark, their downs reset and they begin the process over again. The ball will be turned over to the opposing defence after four downs if they fail to gain the necessary 10 yards.
Equipment and Players
The average American football team has 45 players, despite the fact that each team only has 11 players on the field. They're divided into three groups: attacking (small, fast-moving players), defence (larger, more powerful players tasked with stopping other players from running), and special team players (responsible for the kicking and punting side of the game with a mixture of larger and faster players).
The dimensions of a typical American football field are approximately 100 yards long and 60 wide. Ten-yard lines are drawn on the field to indicate how far each team has to go before they reach the end zone. Each end zone is approximately 20 yards long and is placed at the opposite end of the pitch. There are also posts at the ends of the field where the kicker kicks the ball.
