NBA Defensive Player of the Year A NBA 2K22 analysis

The three finalist on the list for 2022's  NBA 2K22 MT Defensive Player Of The award included Mikal Bridges, Marcus Smart, and Rudy Gobert. As we reported earlier this week, Marcus Smart is the first guard since Gary Payton to win the honorable award.

There has been much dispute about who should have received the award this year. For instance, Bam Adebayo showed discontent about not being selected as a finalist. Two-time winner Giannis Antetokounmpo wasn't in the cut as well. Rudy Gobert, who has received the award several times, has also been a disappointment.

The most important question to consider is: what attributes or statistics are the most crucial to determine the most effective defensive player? One contributor of Bleacher Report explains that the best defensive player is one who excels both individually and as part of a system. I believe that the best defensive player excels all over the court not just in the paint or perimeter.

NBA 2K22 is a video game that can recreate the impact that real life NBA players. Being a regular player of the game I decided to review crucial defensive characteristics from the game in order to determine which player is the most defensive of the three contestants.

The attributes outlined comprise  NBA MT Coins Perimeter Defense, Interior Defense, Help Defense IQ, and Defensive Consistency The attributes are Help Defense IQ, Perimeter Defense, and Defensive Consist. The person with the best aggregate score across those categories was determined to be the winner. Here's what each candidate scored.
