The most common classification of intercoms is the division into devices with audio and video communication. Both have their pros and cons.
Audio intercoms are the most common because they are more affordable. The external device has a speaker and a microphone in the form of a panel, while the internal device is made in the form of a wall tube. A simple design provides two-way audio communication, which allows you to find out the purpose of the visit of the visitor and identify a familiar person by voice. A button is provided on the handset to remotely open the door lock. If necessary, you can turn off the call so that no one bothers.
The video intercom provides two-way audio and one-way video. From the house you can observe the place in front of the door. To do this, a small screen is provided on the internal device. So you can see the number of people who came, see the identity card without leaving the apartment. But the intra-house panel is larger, and the cost of the intercom is higher. If intruders close up the camera hole, the system will "go blind" and only audio will remain.
Types of intercoms are classified according to the design features of the calling panels. The latter are being developed for both outdoor and indoor use (in front of the vestibule, compartment, wing in the building). Consider the existing options.
With and without camera
Panels without a camera have a speaker for hands-free calls and a microphone. They are covered with perforated metal plates. This protects sensitive electronic parts from damage. But they only give two-way audio.
Panels with cameras can be as narrow or wider - it all depends on the resolution of the lens. If the intercom is with a camera, then in addition to the microphone and speaker, there will also be infrared diodes on the case. They are needed for invisible illumination of the space in front of the lens in order to maintain visibility in the dark.
This is true for outdoor intercoms or inside corridors where there is no artificial lighting. When mounting the panel, it is required to position it in such a way that the area in front of the door falls into the field of view of the lens. If there is a corner of the wall nearby, then this is not difficult. But on a straight wall, you will need to install a panel with a slight turn to the door, otherwise the person who comes will not enter the frame and the system will be useless.
I am sure that you should read about video entry phone and it will help you make a good choice and increase the security of your home.
