Are new unique drop rates are capturing the spirit of OSRS well?
The majority of new bosses don't have arbitrary time-sinks before you can fight the boss. For OSRS gold you must get to the island, you'll need either a partner or pet rock and rune thrown axe to run across the tunnel several hours. For GWD you must be there, get your stats exhausted (the fire is relatively new), needed kill count (eccu keys were not available), etc. So yeah, maybe the kill times of each KC were smaller, but you could prepare for those fights.
If you're looking for Kraken, Zulrah, CG, you have much more "good part" which is actually the boss/content and less of the preliminaries "boring part".
This is an extremely important idea. Personally, I don't like long trips to distant bosses, specifically DKs and nightmares. However, I feel like dropping rates that are more recent are more lengthy than the placement of the older bosses. I'm not saying that I dismiss your idea completely there's definitely something about those long journeys that acts as a barrier to farmers the boss.
It's made me think, maybe these travel times are also part of the old school spirit. I appreciate what I consider to be the "good part" the same as anyone else, however, I'm still bored with a boss when I'm on dry streaks.
As someone who's got 525kc at the moment of nightmare (probably 200 for 5 men and at least 20 solo) and just a jar of dreams to prove it, I am completely in agreement, the minimal requirements for quests for bosses of a certain age pale in comparison to the days when you played without drops. I've probably invested between 80-100m in materials playing nightmare, and my most expensive drop was around 450k.
I own an end game iron, and have a good understanding of other irons for ends, and I will claim that nothing has ever been able to make people demon, caused people leave, or caused people to dislike this game more than nightmare and nex. The bosses are easy, boring, and easy to play, yet they're plagued by drop rates that you'd expect from exciting, intense content like tob and cox. Or, Jagex has completely lost all sense or they've decided that their primary demographic should be Venezuelan gold miners.
Corp is not the best however, it doesn't feel less bad since the drops aren't nearly as important. The boss has none of the supplies, and you're completely comfortable. You can go do 12-15 corp kills at night while leaning back, eating and watching a flick. Nex and nightmare take just like the real content in the end game, however they're extremely fast and easy to kill, which means they'll wear out much faster. I would be willing to sacrifice anything in the OSRS GP game even if it meant that Nex never came out.
