Steamforged Games announced an alliance with the developers Jagex to bring RuneScape to tablets later in the year. The MMORPG will be getting not one but two brand new tabletop editions: a board game as well as a tabletop RPG game. The board game is scheduled to OSRS Gold launch on Kickstarter sometime this year, and the tabletop version will head straight to stores.
The games will draw inspiration from the fantasy world of RuneScape, Gielinor. They will draw on the characters, adventures and locales of the MMORPG has made famous through its lengthy history. The board game takes up at most five participants on a mission-based journey through the world of Gielinor.
As per the press release from Steamforged the players will "craft and upgrade their equipment as well as upskill their characters cook up special recipes, interact with Buy RuneScape Gold NPCs, and test their talents while exploring different areas of the globe". Just as with the MMORPG, players will also find side quests to complete the world of the game.
In addition, the TTRPG will consist of an exquisitely illustrated book with all the details needed by players to run a RuneScape TTRPG. With it, players can create their own characters and set off into the lands of Gielinor to create "unique and thrilling quests". Additionally the TTRPG core book will be "fully compliant with ruleset of the fifth edition of the world's favorite role playing tabletop game".
This will be the first time RuneScape will be accessible on a non-digital platform which is something Jagex chief executive Phil Mansell is excited about:
"After more than 21 years of being exclusively available online, it's extremely exciting to be collaborating with Steamforged to develop and distribute RuneScape role-playing adventure to tabletop games...I am certain that RuneScape as well as Old School RuneScape players will be excited to play with the planned miniatures and create their own stories."
