It's been a tough season in the world of Electronic Arts. In a conference call today afternoon, EA executives announced that the layoffs will be sourced from EA's corporate and publishing divisions, and from its numerous labels and studios.

The pink slips that are currently on the market could never be the final. Executives have also announced that EA "will make headcount-related choices with greater vigor in the future." The company is planning to cut down on the number of employees it hires in high-cost regions and expand its operations into "lower-cost places."

Based on EA's own estimates the layoffs announced today could help the company save more than $50 million a year -- money that the company desperately is in need of. Today, EA announced a greater-than-expected $310 million loss, or 97 cents per share, during the July-September quarter Buy Mut Coins Madden 23.
