Welcome to the world of New World, where PvE adventures await both new and returning players. This guide will equip you with the knowledge and strategies needed to excel in PvE activities, with a particular focus on mutations and expeditions. We'll explore the strengths and weaknesses of mob families, gem slotting, status effects, consumables, house trophies, and gear perks to help you maximize your efficiency and dominate the PvE landscape.
Mob Families and Weaknesses
In New World, mobs are divided into different families, each with specific weaknesses to particular damage types. To maximize your effectiveness, you should know which damage type is most effective against the mob you're facing. Here's a breakdown of the damage effectiveness against various mob families:
- Ancients: Weak to strike, void, and lightning.
- Corrupted: Weak to thrust, nature, and arcane.
- Angry Earth: Weak to slash and fire.
- Lost: Weak to strike, ice, and nature.
- Varans: Weak to slash.
- Beasts: Weak to thrust.
You can easily identify if your attacks are effective by observing the icon next to the damage value. Small arrows above the icon indicate vulnerability to that damage type. Yellow damage text signifies increased damage, white is neutral, and orange indicates a critical hit. When playing as a DPS in PvE, always position yourself behind the target to ensure a 100% critical hit chance.
Gem Slotting
Choosing the correct gem for your weapon is vital for boosting your damage output, aggro management, and healing capabilities. Here are some gem recommendations:
- DPS: Slot a diamond or opal in your weapon. Opals are preferred for most cases, especially in pick-up groups (PUGs) where you can't rely on constant healing to maintain a diamond's benefits.
- Tanking: Use cut pristine Carnelian gems in both of your weapons. These gems are essential for taunting effectively.
- Healing: Slot a cut pristine diamond in your Life Staff. For your secondary weapon, follow the DPS guidelines mentioned above.
- Glass Cannon: Only recommended for coordinated groups. Ensure that you coordinate the types of gem you use to avoid stacking damage types, which can be counterproductive.
For mutated expeditions, change your armor gems to match the mutation type. Use amethyst for void, ruby for fire, amber for nature, and aquamarine for ice mutations. This significantly enhances your survivability in higher-tier expeditions like M2s and M3s.
Status Effects
In both PvE and PvP, status effects play a crucial role. For PvE, debuffs like "Ren" are essential, as they reduce your target's damage absorption, with a cap of 70%. Be aware that Season 3 bosses and certain expeditions have debuff resilience, reducing the effectiveness of your Ren and Weaken status effects.
Here are some important status effects to consider:
- Ren
- Weaken
- Poison
- Burn
- Frozen
- Shock
- Stun
- Slowed
- Knockback
Implementing these status effects strategically can provide significant utility for your team.
Consumables
To maximize your efficiency and damage output in expeditions, use the following consumables:
- Attribute Food: Increases your attributes by 40 for 40 minutes.
- Infused Coatings: Provides a 15% damage boost against specific mob types. Remember to apply them to both weapons and reapply if necessary.
- Powerful Honing Stones: Increases weapon damage by 7% for 40 minutes, and you only need one to affect both weapons.
- Infused Ward Potions: Grants +10% damage absorption from specific mob types for 40 minutes.
Additional consumables like bombs, dust, and potions are optional but can be useful in specific situations.
House Trophies
Owning houses in New World allows you to obtain trophies that boost your damage against specific mob types. There are three types of trophies: minor, basic, and major. Consider placing basic trophies for a specific mob type in each of your houses, as they increase your damage to that mob type by 4%. This can significantly boost your overall damage output in PvE.
Gear Perks
Choosing the right perks for your gear is essential to optimize your PvE build. Some recommended perks for armor include Health, Enchanted Ward, and skill perks. Enchanted Ward is particularly useful for reducing damage from light and heavy attacks.
For weapons, consider perks like Rogue, Vicious, Keen, Empowered, Thwarting Strikes, Jagged, Mortal Power, Attunement, and Life Stealing. These perks will enhance your DPS capabilities.
Remember that the best-in-slot items can be subjective and situational, so choose your perks based on your playstyle and the content you're tackling.
Armed with these tips and guidelines, you'll be well-prepared to tackle PvE content in New World, whether you're a new or returning player. Good luck and enjoy your adventures in Aeternum!
