"I need people to have the ability to compete in esports who don't have a console at home," Wood explained. Velazquez's success may mean greater than video game achievement. The teen said for a lot of his life he had considered trade school as his second move after graduation. The current win has him considering competing in esports in the collegiate level.

Otherwise, Velazquez hopes he can hang his hat on helping expand competitive gaming chances for future generations of students. "If I help (esports) be bigger for kids that are in elementary and come up to Lake Stevens High School, which would be cool," Velazquez said. "It might be a significant thing."
